Do You Practice Common Singing Mistakes?
Are you aware of the routine mistakes vocal performers make while practicing or performing in front of an audience? There are a few things that you can quickly reverse once you become aware of them, then a couple of others where you will have to work at it. Every correction you make will make you a better singer and communicator with the audience.
You probably heard about the out of tune singer. It’s true that some singers have intonation problems, but with hard work and awareness that can be resolved. One of the worst things you can do is hold your breath while you sing. So make sure you use diaphragmatic breathing so your breath is smooth and even. This can carry voice evenly while you sing.
The next thing is to sing while tense, especially your shoulders, neck and facial muscles. This will restrict the strength and power of your voice, and your voice will sound weak and thin as you sing. Also, learn how you can use the right breath support while you sing as this can help reduce tension. All of this can be learned by a competent teacher or one of the courses online which are very detailed in how you can do it.
Try to develop your own special unique vocal style. You want to stand out as an individual, not a copycat of a famous singer you admire. Be yourself while you perform in front of others. You want them to remember you for you not for sounding like someone else. Be unique in the way you sing.
Eye contact with the audience is a wonderful thing, as people will start to like you. A smile goes a long way and people will recall your presentation long after the performance. We all get nervous sometimes, but try to relax as people will notice the tension in your body language.
By practicing and becoming aware of the proper vocal techniques you will become more self-confident and sing better. There’s nothing worse than a singer standing stiffly on stage with a tight, expressionless look on their face. It seems like they don’t want to sing in front of an audience.
The good news is with the understanding and knowledge you will be able to correct these issues. Keep in mind that being nervous and tense gradually fades with repeated performances and positive feedback. You have to believe in yourself and your ability or you wouldn’t be on stage singing, would you? Go out and just do it!
